Video from last year's workshop :
The AA visiting school serves as a platform for various professional and academic partners to collaborate , apply exciting and contemporary research to address locally relevant issues and to understand and assimilate traditional wisdom . The intention is to look beyond Computer Aided Design (CAD ) as simple design automation to CAD as enabling architectural creativity whilst still responding to complex spatial and material performance constraints of our times.
In keeping with this spirit , the AA School of Architecture, London, Zaha Hadid Architects Computation and Design group (ZHA|CODE), Autodesk Inc, will renew their collaboration with BMS College of Engineering to bring the second iteration of their 10-day workshop to Bangalore. The workshop as represented by the diversity of the collaborators, will explore the relations between contemporary design techniques, creative expression, software technology and its manifestation within India’s emergent economy and ancient built traditions. It also seeks to use production-proven design methods and software platforms in a judicious mix with emerging and innovative research.
Objectives.
In the wake of the hugely enthusiastic response to the first iteration and its ensuing success, the second will aim to build on its learning. This will centre around two main foci - exploration and streamlining of a multi-stage process of concept to physical manifestation and synthesis of advanced computational design research with constraints of a emergent labour intensive economy. The workshop will continue its agenda of exploring the following: physics-based design methods, integration of form and structure, computational methods of optimisation for fabrication, and adaptation to local means, methods and craft.
The aim is to provide the participants conceptual and programming framework for advanced digital methods within collaborative architectural design. The workshop will available a rich, varied and international talent pool from institutions such as Zaha Hadid Architects London, AA School of Architecture , London, Southern California institute of architecture ( SCI-Arc ), Los Angeles apart from local partners including BMS college, Bangalore. Further, the workshop will tap into expertise of Autodesk, who are on-board as software-development / training collaborators of the workshop.
Certification
AA School of Architecture will certify participation in the workshop as part of their design curricula. Autodesk Inc, will certify participation as part of their Autodesk training certification for specific software used / taught during the course.
The deadline for applications is 5 August 2011. A late deadline of 19 August 2011 is also in effect, but this will incur a £50 surcharge
